Is a protective order right for you?
In major Texas counties, most protective orders (family violence restraining orders) are handled by district attorney’s offices. However, private attorneys can seek them for clients. Today in Tarrant County, we obtained a temporary protective order for a client after being hired two days earlier. This order will be followed with a trial for a two year final protective order.
The main benefit of a protective order is that if someone violates it, they can be charged with a crime. There is also now a database for people who have final protective orders against them. I’m very familiar with issues of family violence in divorce and family law cases, and resources available for victims of family violence. Please seek help safely if you are a victim of family violence.
